Joseph's life could be an adventure movie.  For more than twenty-five years, he was a marine biologist on some of Indonesia’s most spectacular and remote islands, learning the cultures and languages before marrying a Balinese warrior princess.

Then he changed tack. He sailed to Australia and launched a career in film. For seven years, he lived aboard a boat while making movies, then returned to Bali with one thing on his mind: telling stories that matter. His recent acting credits include Satan’s Slaves 3: The Origin, from auteur filmmaker Joko Anwar; the award-winning Bandit; The Ghost and the Gun; Dev Patel’s Monkey Man (Universal); Luchsinger and the Gods; The Singapore Grip (ITV); and Strike Back (HBO).

Joseph is one of only a handful of registered foreign film directors working in Indonesia. He directed, wrote, and produced The Wall, a feature documentary following Wall of Death rider Karmila Purba (now in post). His directing credits also include The Whip Fighters of Indonesia (Arte/ZDF), two Discovery television specials, and the television pilot Soulbeats. The New Zealand Film Commission financially backed his feature screenplays Rider and Kandula, and he is co-producing his original story Trash Monsters with Finnish animation studio Anima Vitae. From remote islands to the silver screen, Joseph keeps doing what he has always done: going where the story takes him.
